Phase 3

Sleep is a significant aspect of our lives, but many people just don’t realize what makes it significant. With school, work, stress, or even just staying up on our phones, sleep is usually the first thing we give up, treating it like something we can just ignore without facing the consequences. My visual argument includes a google slides presentation and will serve as a means to advocate on why people should be sleeping enough, highlighting the benefits of good sleep and the negative effects of sleep deprivation with an intended audience of mainly students and teachers.

My first to third slide of the visual argument is about the impact of sleep. There’s a lot of positive effects we get from sleeping. Firstly, it helps calm the mind, which makes it easier for people to handle pressure, emotions, and challenges throughout the day. During sleep, the brain organizes and stores information, which helps you remember what you studied and perform better on tasks like tests and assignments. Thirdly, sleeping helps make the body healthier. It lowers the risk of chronic conditions such as high blood pressure and heart disease; We tend to get sick less often and have our stress reduced, giving you the energy needed for school, work, sports, and other responsibilities so you can do your best. With these lists of  effects, it can be seen that sleep plays an important role in everyday life.

My fourth and fifth slide is about the opposite of actively getting sleep, which is called ‘Sleep deprivation’. Sleep deprivation is when you aren’t sleeping enough or when the quality of your sleep isn’t great. In the beginning stage, it might just make you feel unfocused, but if it continues for a long time, it can start to interfere and cause more problems. Lack of sleep slows down your thinking, making it harder to pay attention in class or while doing homework. The body doesn’t get time to recover, leaving you feeling tired, drained, and unmotivated throughout the day. Without enough rest, our brain will also get negatively affected, it becomes harder to learn and recall things. Additionally, the body doesn’t get time to recover, giving the feeling of tiredness, drained, and less feeling to do your usual tasks throughout the day.  Sleep deprivation can affect anyone at any age.

My visual argument will be in the form of a Google Slides presentation designed like a series of digital posters. I will be using this format to spread and separate information into sections instead of complicating information for the audience. The intended audience for this visual argument can be applied to any human; mainly students, teachers or any busy person as these groups are most affected by sleep habits and would be able to benefit from understanding more about the importance of sleep. The presentation includes six slides, each connecting to the topic, guiding the audience through the argument in a logical and understandable way
